Yes is was an option for the 2nd gens for a few years then they changed it over to the xtreme. In 84 about the only vehicle I can think of that came with a factory ss package was the monte carlo or el camino. Since 1974 the ss package doesn't mean much besides some badges or stickers on the side, no high HP or special engines included in it.

2.0 liter 4 cyl 5 speed.... yeah I'd say nothing special in the engine department

but each of those stickers add +5 hp AND they are reflective so that is roughly equal to a spuer charger...

1. In the early 90s the ss silverado had a 454...

2. Early 00s the ss silverado came with a 6.0 HO engine compared to the 4.8 or 5.3 V8..

3. Currently the Imapala SS has a 5.3.. the only v8 offered in Impalas.

4. SS Trailblazers also have 6.0s compared to the 5.3 or V6's offerd.

Just to name a few. These all have a considerable amount more power and perfomance parts compared to the non SS versions. They also have apperance pacakges.

Sorry...you're wrong.

The power is routed through an automatic overdrive 4-speed transmission to BFGoodrich Tomp T/A, P275/60HR-15, on special 454 SS wheels. The interior comes equipped with a speical plush Garnet Red cloth interior and high-back reclining sport bucket seats. Other items include front airdam with lights, SS graphics, black paint with black grille, bumpers, and mirrors. These trucks were only produced from 1990 to 1993… and cost around $20,000. Check out the 454 SS Web Page
I saw one of these in Cash for Clunkers, It was as crappy as that s10 though

You coulda ordered a fullsize with a 454 and not the ss package.

Your early 00s is 2003 to be exact. That 6.0 was also just an option package and could be had in any fullsize. About the only special thing on it was the earlier ones came with AWD.

The newer impalas are FWD and really don't impress me, but if you wanna jump into FWD platforms you forgot about the colbalt ss (it does have a special to it only supercharger). Still go look at ordering a RPO code 9C1 impala and see what engine comes with it.

I did forget about the trailblazer ss so I guess you did get me on that one. I wouldn't be afraid to bet in a year or two that ls2 will become an engine option in a cheaper package.

You're right, the 6.0 was the MAX package I believe, but not the standard 5.3 that could be found on the dealership lot I don't recall.

As far as SS Cobalts and Impala I wasn't aiming for specifically for FWD platforms. Again the supercharger and 5.3 not being normal versions of either car. Special packages.

As you said originally.. "badges or stickers on the side, no high HP or special engines included." Just sayin that your statement is inaccurate
