3.1 to 3.4 swap
Would a computer be needed to swap a 3.4 into a car with a 3.1?
What would be needed if not?
I bought a 94 lumina with the flat top 3.1, shes got a knock when its cold, but within a block it goes away, and it wasnt low on oil, so i dont know
But Id think about swappin in a 3.4 i know of around here if i blow the 3.1
Heres a pic of the car:

As long as you keep up the maintenance it'll last you quite a few miles. But as far as swapping I was planning on doing it to my Corsica before I got rid of it and did some reading. Now don't quote me but I think they use the same PCM.. I can't remember correctly. Do some outside research to be sure. Look for people who swap them into z26 Beretta's and Cavalier's. Otherwise it is a fairly straight forward bolt-to-mount swap I believe.

Swapping some wiring stuff wouldnt be too big of a deal as long as they mount the same way too. What i wanna do is find another lumina either on the road or a junk yard and look at everything to see how straight forward it is

The chip is a bit different. Piston slap is common on all 60 degrees so going to a 3.4 won't fix that. I would keep the 3.1 and put a 3.5 heads on that thing to open it up.

Doesn't sound unusual, a lot of modern engines do that. As long as it runs fine otherwise, it's probably best to leave it alone. Short piston skirts and cold temperatures generally cause this.
If you swap to a 3.4 the computer will externally look the same, but has a different tune. It would really need the proper tune to run right.
