Well, I have firefox installed on this bad boy, and it is SUCH a memory hog. Its emulated to 32 bit, and I hit a point where the footprint was over 1,000,000 K .... And I only had 2 windows open with maybe 10 tabs each.

Hell there are times when I have 5 windows open and 50 tabs in one, 30 in another, etc. on my 32 bit laptop.

I am looking into firefox 64 bit, I do not know why I never used their 64 bit program before, prob because it was in development...

But does anyone else who runs these softwares have these problems?

 

I run firefox on my Vista Ultimate x64 machine and do not notice any problem with memory usage...

 

Are you using the firefox 64 bit app or the regular 32 bit?

I have windows 7 i have been using since it was leached, Been about 5 months and i love it so much, Using the window vista look and runs a lot smoother than that xp and vista crap

Just putting out there that there are better running operating systems out there and that windows xp 64 had more bugs than the amazon trails, And that you will just have more and more problems, Because firefox is suppose to be a low mem usage program but not if your using a windows xp format, Just kinda giving a recommended OS

 

Ok... Does not really help the OP though does it...

The biggest problem with XP x64 is that there was very weak support for hardware drivers. Everyone concentrated on Vista.

Myself, I have no problem with Vista x64, nor did I have any problems prior to that running XP x64 with the proper drivers. I do not know if I still have an image with XP x64 on it that I could revert back to to see if I notice any performance issues with firefox though...

And that same machine with the latest public beta of Windows 7 (one that is actually licensed) had some issues even with updated drivers. Don't get me wrong, it looked good and has some very nice features, but I will not be jumping on the Windows 7 band wagon until they have all of the nuts and bolts tightened down.

 

lol i hear ya on that i have not noticed any problems so far with it, But yeah the firefox platform was a little unstable with the xp 64bit and vista 64bit but the new vista patch fixed the unstable problem with the Firefox software which might be why its runs well with your vista, And to correct my meaning of the statement i made about "xp and vista crap" I meant windows 7 with no patches was alot better that xp and vista was at first with no patches

 

In relevence to the OP, Ill give you a bit of insight...

at this point in time.

There are no tru 64bit chips... and

There are no true 64bit OSs... So

what this means is by running a 64 bit os on a 64 bit chip you are essentially traveling through two conversion layers 32>>64>>64>>32. The only real benefit is the ability to see more then 3.5 gb but most wont even notice the diffrence, because they never acctually use that much space. 64bit OSs at this time are a pop culture cliche. its used as a selling point to make money, unfortunatly unless your rendering some hard core shiat you proly dont NEED for the 4gb of ram.(kyle will proly argue, being an enganeer and all).

on a second note. firefox is a hog and a lag... big time. give something like chrome a try and see if it is more your fancy.
