Hey guys,

I saw this on another forum and thought we could start one up here. Give us a list of the best and worst engines ever made, in your opinion.

Best: Chevy 350, Ford 351, Buick L36, Ford 300I6

Worst: Caddy V8 6-4, Olds 350 Diesel

SBC is all around great, cheap for parts and so little changes over the years

Bad Mitsubishi / chrysler 2.6l , most of them sounded like they had a monkey with a hammer trying to get out

I believe you mean the 2.7l as i was going to post myself...


Best : SBC,straight 6 from dodge and chevy as well. ford 302.

Worst : 2.7l,jeep 4.7,northstar v8,2.9 ford.

no 2.6
they used it in the early 80s in front wheel drive cars and Ram 50 p/u

Apparently they used the same motor in fork lifts and it was "great"

Best: 350, 454, 4.3 CPI Chevy. 351 Cleveland, 460 Ford. 318 Dodge. Or any built engine.
Worst: 305 Chevy.

theres gotta be worse than the 305, its the same block as 350 just... less fun. I agree with most good engines here so ill add a few of my worst; dodge shadow 2.2l its just so slow and troublesome, chevys 2.4 is good but impossible to work on, same for chrysler 3.5 and you dont see so meany of them around anymore, maybe fords 4.2 v6
