IMO, get the IR231C. I have it and it works very nicely. If you can swing some more money, the IR titanium impacts are very nice. I will be picking up the 3/8" IR Titanium impact in a bit.

In my experience, CP impacts wear out quite fast and require more and more air as they age to do less work. And it is interesting that CP doesn't give you their

In the end, you get what you pay for.

I have broken them with mine in the past.

CP is a budget brand that is not known for their life. We use IR impacts exclusively in our shop at Goulds Pumps and they last quite a while putting our pumps together.

Yeah go with IR. I have a 1/2in titanium impact with a matching 3/8 and I love them.

i have a 1/2 inch IR impact and its old and had the crap beat out of it and it works great. Not sure what the model number is though. If my buddies can't get something loose i normally take my IR and get it right out unless its really stuck. I also have a CP 3/8 impact that is absolutely worthless and i have only used it once or tried and failed.

Ditto on the IR. Mine, 1/2" drive, has seen all kinds of harsh conditions, dropped in the mud, snow even run over by....10,...9...8...ok all better. But seriously it has plenty of power and with a decent compressor even pulls out track bolts on our 'dozers.

IR all the way. Great impact's. I wouldn't buy anything I expected to last with normal use from Harbor Freight. They're ok for something you'll seldom use. Check on Ebay- sometimes you can find a really good deal on there. I was going to buy an IR but I found a Craftsman Professional 1/2' that I got for $19.38 so I picked it up a little over a year ago and it works great.
