cool dodge breakage.
this came into work today. 2002 diesel dodge ram. said he was doing 60 on the highway and something made a heck of a noise, the driveshaft flew out and pogo sticked (his words) down the highway lol.
but anyways heres the damage, broke the transmission in half, cracked the tailshaft of the transfercase and twisted and broke the driveshaft.
only thing that held the transfercase from falling out of the truck was the shifter lever and vent tube
everybody has their theory as to what exactly happened. my opinion the rear ujoint looks brand new so im guessing maybe he didnt put the clips or caps in right, driveshaft fell off in the back swung into the frame or something along those lines and destroyed everything else.... another theory is the transfercase locked up but its free now and someone else things a transmission issue
hes looking at like $4500 in repairs. chrysler stuff isnt cheap

My grandpa broke a transfer case off the tranny just like that
Cause: Hit a tree with front axle, bending the front dana 60, pushing/bending driveshaft, breaking the t case off the tranny, bending the rear driveshaft. A tranny, front axle, fender, door, some paint time, and about 10k later, he had a truck that drove like crap because the shop put in a used steering box.
BIGGEST mistake on a 3/4 or 1 ton dodge. And while they were at it, they decided to leave the wheel turned 90 degrees to the right when they did that. I wouldnt take anything back there ever again
