Any body ever change an engine on an Express van? Looks like I'll be changing mine out as was looking for info. Heard it's 22 hrs book time.

How different is a vortec? Local guy has a Jaser engine wraped, still on the skid that he will let go for $1000. But it's not a vortec. Will it work. should I keep looking? Can some one hook me up with links on info about my options. Been doing some searching, but I'm still kinda confused. Would love to convert it to a turbo diesel but I think that's just a pipe dream. Does the 5.7 have an inherent problem and should I put something more reliable in? I would appreaciate any information on this. The blazer is my daily driver and the high top conversion van is for pulling my fishing boat and family drives, so as long as I get it going in the next 6 months or so is ok. Thanks in advance.

1000 bucks is alright for a price. The 22 hours is due to the fact you have to take apart the grill, rad, rad support, headlights and all that on the front. On a truck you lift the engine up and out, on the van it goes forward and out, so everything in front of the engine has gotta go.

No, you must use that vortec engine. There is much more work involved to use a TBI or something else in its place as the vortec engine managment wont plug and play into anything but a vortec.

Go over and check out fullsizechevy.com theres tons of info around there you will be able to use, and the guys there are really good for helping a brother out. Its kinda like the group here, but bigger.
