My dad was talking to my neighbor today and my neighbor commented on how clean my dad's truck was and asked who details it. Well, I do. So my neighbor wants to pay me to detail his truck, but IDK what to charge. Its a 2005 (I think) F-350 Crew Cab, Dualies, 8 ft bed. I see where a lot of people are charging $50-100 for a wash, wax, interior clean & detail, wheels, door jambs, and tire shine on a car (they even say that a large truck costs more). So what do you guys think I should charge for wash, wax, wheel well cleaning, door jambs, rims, tire shine, interior vac, shampoo, & detail?

i have no idea what to charge. i know the crappy Washman chain out here charges like $20 for a trip through the wash coaster and a half assed vaccuum job at the end.... i think the next step up is "we'll wipe your dash off too" for $49.95....

If places around you are going for $50-$100 AND charge more for a truck... see if you can get squeeze at least $75 out of the deal

 

The local place I used to go, which also installs all the equipment for cop cars within xxx mile radius charges 80 90 100 depending on size, and what you want... full service was something like 97.xx and change... but it was CLEAN! I swear to god i could have filled it up with cereal and took a spoon and milk and went to town...

But when I do photographs for people... I do about 1/6-1/8 of the normal rates they see because I am just "amateur" but if you are not going to doing it consistently... give him a decent deal... Maybe do like a 35-50 plus x amount per hour to get you around 75-100, mostly being closer to the 75ish....

 

I have a buddy that used to detail some stuff in high school. He used to get right around 100-120 dollars for a full-size truck. That dually is gonna take alot of supplies and time.

 

I was planning on giving him a good deal since my mom and her sisters grew up with him and he's always been nice to us. I always detail my dad's 2004 Ram, my truck, my gf's Galant, and do a few of my friends' cars from time to time. Everyone is always happy with the results and say they get compliments. Thing is, aside from my dad's and my truck, I've only ever done mid-size cars for $35 because I can get those done in 2.5-3hrs, and since I work for my dad he has me do that while I'm on the clock. Hence me not knowing what I should charge. And no, I don't charge my gf for detailing lol.

 

I once paid somewhere around $120 for a smaller midsized two door. This included a good buff, carpet shampoo. Both the paint and carpet looked to need replacing but they still made it look new, very quality work. I would say he'd honestly be lucky to find somewhere that would do a full interior/exterior detail for less than $150 in my area. I guess the fairest way to figure this out would be to take the price of supplies it takes, and agree on a reasonable hourly rate.

 

I think 100 is fair, a detail shop would want about 300 for a complete job.

Maybe even try to get 120 from him for the first few times to build up your supplies then drop him down to 100 from then on, and if he gets you some more busness drop him down to 80...

Its going to take a few hours, so 25 and hour for detailing is fair its dirty work and you will sweat doing it.

I charge 40 an hour for mechanical work done from my home and people love it cause they save so much, and I love it cause I wont get 40 an hour working for someone else, so we all win!

Aynway...I agree...100$ is what I would charge, especially since you're looking at an EASY 4-5 hours of work with that big of a truck. Not to mention the product you'll be using on it. The waxes and cleaners aren't exactly cheap. With that said, being a neighbor and all I might drop it to $80, but even still for the time and size of the vehicle $100 should be a steal. That could easily be an all day project so you're giving up an entire day of your time to do it. You have to throw in a Ford tax too, just because it's a Ford. An extra $20 sounds fair.
That's just my opinion though. If I were to detail it that's how much I'd charge.

 

Its almost like when your mowing a lawn. Think of how you work on each detail and how much your work is worth. Like before thinking of a total break it down. And this makes me wish i had asked this guy i knew that detailed. He did it for cops and stuff. But I never asked how much he charged.
