OK, so a guy at work has an 02 Alero with the 2.2 Ecotec in it. He broke the timing chain at about 90K, towed to Canadian Tire, and they want to sell him an engine for it. He doesnt want to spend the money and will let me have the wreck for 250 bucks.

Is this an interference engine? Or can I just put a new chain on it and vrooom? Or is the valves and pistons buggered and I need to source an engine. If I can get the engine for under 1500 is this a good deal? What do my homies think?

Ohso, I hate to say it, but, yes, that engine is toast. Stick a fork in it, its done!

BUT there IS hope. I am not sure of the Can./ U.S. conversion is but $1500 US should get you a very nice engine. Or, if you wanted to go "sleeper" you can swap in an engine from a Cobalt SS, which of course, is supercharged! hehehehe!

Well Im waiting to hear back from this guy:
2.2 Ecotec - St. Albert Engine, Engine Parts For Sale - Kijiji St. Albert Canada.

Cause then I can get the car going for 850 bucks invested and maybe sell it? I suppose 600 is a good deal for him to pull the engine out of the wreck for me and I just gotta pick it up.

Yup, sounds good. Just check the engine out first like ya would on any other canidate. Just because the car was running when it was wrecked does not mean that its not ready to let go next week. Not to mention, the shock of being wrecked has a way of doing strange things to car parts.
