Default Parts from clunkers

So I read the whole 10 pages of the CFC thread and I'm wondering, does anyone know for sure if these cars can be parted out or do they need to be destroyed?

I'm asking because I just bought a 95 Blazer LT at auction. There are some parts I'd like to replace but it isn't worth spending too much on it. Will there be a glut of cheap parts or a shortage and hard to find?

Mike

Do you mean the cars that people traded for the Cash for Clunkers program?
Those, according to the government, are to be crushed, not parted out.

just ask the dealership they may let you they did with me, but they were small parts, but they could get in a lot of trouble for doing this

I was told Friday by a flatbed driver (from a towing company here in Dayton, Ohio), that they had orders pending to tow 2,200 Clunkers from local Dealer lots straight to a nearby Iron Smelting plant.

ALL 2,200 vehicles will go, by-passing the local wrecking yards.

What a waste of good parts....

Leave it to the gov'mt to mess something like this up... I think it's an effort to phase out other clunkers that ppl are reluctant to get rid of. The problem is, some people can't afford something better.

They can be parted out even the drivetrain can be sold seperately. The cars have to be crushed within a certain time frame which i believe is 180 days. Does not give a lot of time to sit around as parts car.

I don't think many liquid glass filled engines are going to be sold.

depending on how much work you want to put into it...
obviously, a 4.3 isnt worth it, but there were some other nice engines that could be worth salvaging, if you have the patience/time/money.

yes, you can get the parts, just have to know where they went.
