they can go to a junk yard but they have to be crushed within 90 days. all of ours are going to the scrap yard since they will pay a lot more per car.

obviously, a 4.3 isnt worth it, but there were some other nice engines that could be worth salvaging, if you have the patience/time/money.

yes, you can get the parts, just have to know where they went.
from Jalopnik
these motors are not really fixable. anything the glass touches will need to be replaced so most of the engine is worthless. we have had a few throw rods through the oil pans too.

what type of cars are these that are being traded in to be junked? are they like muscle car type 60-70's novas, camaros or chevelles??? or like mid 80's cars? also do you always get the full max amount $4,500 upon trade in? or that depends on the cars condiditon?

When I said the drivetrain I meant the transmission and back. The engine can not be re-sold. The drive train has to be sold as individual parts. Transmission, Drive Shaft, Diff. Axle. etc.

It ended on August 24th at 8pm. It was a sad day, I got rid of my very first truck a 96 Blazer in the cash for clunkers....definitely got more than blue book value. Transmission and motor have to be destroyed, but I'm sure they parted out my truck...it was immaculate. I pulled everything off that I could and am hoping to find a good home for some of those parts!

I stopped at a dealer last week. They had a 95 Blazer in the cfc lot. I asked if they would sell me some of the plastic dash parts. They said they can't. The dealer doesn't own those cars. The gov. does.

I guess you need to find where they are taking them and try to get parts there. But then again if the gov. owns the cars, who knows what'll happen to them

my local yards got 15 blazers in from the clunkers deals... yeah there is a time frame that they have to crush them but the dealerships had no choice... blazers are a dime a dozen around my way and alot of people got rid of theres apperently... what really sucks is i just bought a wrecked 99 blazer to fix up and sell and then the tranny and rear went in my jimmy so now i need to use it for parts... it sucks cause the wrecked blazer only has 46k on in and the frame is pretty beat... i have the front sheetmetal from one of the clunkers but now it they are just as good as the rest of the clunker metal...
