Exclamation Stop BSL!!!

http://www.stopbsl.com

I'm not sure how many of you feel about the situation, but Breed Specific Legislation is beginning to become more popular with Legislators. It allows a quick and easy fix for aggressive dogs. Unfortunately it targets only a few breeds just because of their looks. Or because they have gotten a bad rap due to bad owners. A lot of times they define 6 different breeds with the Term "Pit Bull", not including the American Pit Bull Terrier. American Staffordshire Terrier, Cane Corso, Dogo Argentino, Presa Canario, and Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog are all almost identical look-a-likes. But most people would just call them a Pit Bull and therefore are given the same stereotypes.

I myself own a PitBull/Husky mix and she is the best dog in the world. We took her to the Mud Bog with us and people were amazed at how timid she was. She would just sit beside me, or in front of the baby's stroller. And she does look like a Pit. The owners of the Bog actually have Pit Bulls and they are so beautiful and so calm.

I also used to own an American Staffordshire Terrier... but had to sell him because no where would allow us to have him. While he was still a puppy, only 10 weeks, and still hyper and still nipped. He was so smart, and would lay beside my son all the time.

If just a quarter of y'all would go to the website and read around, maybe you will see our side. These dogs are wrongfully stereotyped, and its not fair to people who love these dogs. There are also petitions on gopetition.com, just search BSL.

Please Its for the love of dogs!!! And watch Pit Boss on Animal Planet. Its a great show!!

I love Pit Bulls and I plan on getting a Presa Canario pretty soon. I bet the BSL wouldn't target a Dalmation right away, meanwhile they're number ten on the most "dangerous" dogs list.

Here's the list if anyone wants to check it out. Of course Pit Bulls are number 1 ^__^

Of course it wont. They don't look like a Pit! I miss my Staffy!! He was so cute. I'm thinking of writing legislators and complaining that its not fair they get discriminated. The website give loads of helpful hints on what not to write.

I see where the legislators are coming from as well.

A few years ago every couple of weeks some child or little dog got mauled and killed by an agressive pit. Usually an un-nutered male. I am a dog owner and I don't believe it's right to have to muzzle the good, well mannered dogs when the owners with the agressive dogs do the "**** the autorities" and don't muzzle their dogs. Those ******** gave your dog a bad rap. It's also up to people to be vigilant. If you see someone with a very agressive pit, then REPORT IT... citations will be issued and fines will insue if need be. Society is flawed, if the first person walking by an elderly man who fell to the sidewalk... 98% of the people following that first person will follow suit and just keep walking. The same happened with these aggressive dogs and now the well mannered ones are getting the rotten end of the proverbial chew toy.

i love Pit Boss! I watch it whenver I can. I want to do some rescue work, but we don't have a rescue around here. And I don't think I could get a grant to start one. It couldn't hurt to try tho.

i personally have helped rescue some "pits" in detroit. My mechanic has his own shop and saves as many as he can. right now he has 5 that he slowly gives to good homes. We've saved a few others but its mainly pits in his area. I had a picture of his personal but can't seem to find it. He has a male with gray fur and beautiful blue eyes named Blue who i wrestle with and pick up all the time.

Usually after a little talk with the owners, they just handed over the dog. my buddy (Mike) has actually paid people money to take the pits off their hands. the most he's paid so far is $500, just to get the dog to safety.

i understand not wanting to "kill off" these animals. i also understand the fear... but if we're afraid of pits, why not Rottweilers, German Shepards, Huskies, Malamutes, Dobermans, Chow Chows, Boxers, and Dalmations? they're all dangerous too.....

i guess what i'm getting at is... why put the dog down when they do what their owners taught them? why not put the people out of their misery? little extreme, yes, but it gets the point across on how i feel

I wanted to start my own guinea pig/rabbit rescue at one point....but, Sometimes we dont think about all the animals that will come in with serious medical issues that can cost thousands, food, the space....money is usually the issue. you can not sell things, you can only accept donations and that makes it tough, it would be like having 20 newborns and having to care for them 24/7....they are helpless animals and need attention...

Though the thought is an awesome one...maybe if you got people together that shared your love and were willing to donate time and money to be a part of your rescue...its just hard to get everything together.

Its a shame more people dont care like we do.

Dane (our dog we rescued from a shelter a couple weeks ago) is the best dog ever!! I get to bring him to work with me when I want, he listens! there were so many pits and other dogs there! even a 10 year old lab! how do you give up a dog you have had for 10 years, part of the family....I imagine those people would sell their kids.
This is my little guy...he is a 4 year old mid size Poodle mix....maybe part Lasa.

And my two bunnies I rescued, Jax and Ronin...

I think once I get my truck running I'm gonna go up to the local shelters and see if I can't volunteer. The last dog I got from a Foster parent, my Pit/Husky, and she is the best dog ever. And then I took a dog from one of my husbands friends who couldn't have her anymore, she's more of a handful being a German Shepherd/Treeing Walker Coonhound. But man is she pretty.

And then of course my AmStaff Terrier that I saved from going to the pound

My family has always had either Shelter dogs, or rescues. We've got a Purebred Black Lab that my dad got out of the back of a truck, they "couldn't" sell her cause she had white on her... stupid breeders.
