Well I can count on 2 hands how many websites I usually visit, so it is not a necessity for me to have protection. But it is just an added layer of security in my mind. On several occasions, I got a malicious file alert on s10forums.com, so my anti-virus is picking up something. But this so called malicious file probably isn't even really malicious, it's just saying it could be malicious.

But your right in thinking anti-virus does do bad to a computer. Some anti-virus programs are such a resource hog, your computer runs like crap until you completely uninstall the program.

I get trouble when I go to s10 extremist. My desktop won't even let me in. I haven't fooled around enough in my security to let it pass.

I run stuff like anti malware and the occasional spybot scan.

Have you guys ever gotten a computer that comes with Norton?
My first computer came with Norton and when I was first learning how to use them I could not accomplish a single thing because I thought my computer was crap, but it was just Norton hogging all of my resources.

For the people who think that anti-virus is a scam, or the cause of viruses, that is just asinine.
And that there is words coming from a true computer nerd.

I haven't heard a peep about anyone losing their computers or having a slight problem.

Keeping your computer secure and avoiding viruses and such is more on you than your software protection because it depends on the sites you visit. I have to go rip crap of my mom's computer everytime I see her because she just downloads stuff she see's online all the time. Half the time the files tend to be random executable files that are really annoying to remove
