Anyway, my kid took a welding class and so I want to put him to work! I came across a used miller syncrowave 210. The guy is asking $2700.00. I know absolutely nothing about welding, but I want to be able to mig and tig weld... The unit looks in good shape to me. Anyone have suggestions? Is this a good unit? Decent price? Thanks!
It's an ok price for a machine in that condition (depending on what extras are included with it), but you can almost buy it new for that. The biggest problem I see is that the only wire feeder it has is that spool gun. For TIG, it will be great, but that's not the best way to MIG, ecept for certain circumstances like welding aluminum, and you have a TIG for that.
I don't know of any combo machines that do both MIG and TIG well. You'd be much better off getting one of each. And don't be afraid of older machines. They last a really long time. I think my TIG welder was made in 1976 and, while it lacks a lot of the features that newer machines have, it still works fine. A Lincoln, Miller, or Hobart from about the 90s on up should serve you well.
