So I saw this in person here in North Idaho and sure enough it is a "thing" people do: Install lights in 4x4 truck wheel wells.
When I first saw it I thought "on the first muddy day the lights will get covered!"
I kind of get the adding of lights under street cars since these never leave the pavement. But to illuminate the part of your lifted 4x4 truck that will get covered in mud tells me your lift is only for show and you are a poser. This is such a city thing, something I'm not used to seeing in Idaho.
every imported car with one of those fake tow-straps hanging off it, or jeeps with obscene lifts or mods that are perfectly clean with gloss-black framerails, literal Pavement queens.
I can say my Blazer has never been called a parking lot queen. A couple of years ago I went up to Denver to see my cousin, and while stopped at a light a homeless lady told me I need to wash my car. I told her it wasn't a car and the last time it got washed was the last time it rained.
First time I saw those lights I asked what good where they. I was told it was for rock crawling at night. I then asked who in their right mind would go rock crawling at night. That was the end of the conversation.

Love it! Right? And besides, that is not where I would place the lights if I wanted to illuminate a rock-crawling trail.

Totally!!! I love how those new CUV Jeeps on which the factory tow-hooks come painted red. LOL
The one I still think is funny are the shackle protectors. What are they there to protect? Shackles are for vehicle recovery which means they better be pretty strong.

They don't have to be in their right mind, lol. People do it all the time. While I personally have no desire to go wheeling at night, there have been times when unforeseen circumstances (breakdowns, etc.) have caused me to be on the trail much later than anticipated. For those occasions, rock lights (not silly "glow" lights) are helpful. And they're great for loading the rig on the trailer at night.
Like I said, I have rock lights, and they really are useful. And it's been a long time since I was 17. But mine don't change colors, flash to the beat of my music, or provide any decorative benefit whatsoever. They just light up the trail on those occasions when it's necessary.
But y'all can make fun of them if you want. I'm not offended.

Yes, but you actually rock crawl and I'm betting you wouldn't try it with the wheels in the ad. 😁
Actually, I have considered on occasion putting lights (white) all over my engine compartment, wheel wells, anywhere light would be nice in case I ever have a breakdown. 😳

Speaking of lights under the hood, I did install this. It has worked out well. Just having a light over the passenger side of the engine compart has be great. However, It will be nice to have the extension cord too.
