Whats the fastest have you gone on your car?

Hi Guys,
Whats the fastest have you gone on your car?
for me 135.

TheStig 01-28-2010 05:28 AM

I dunno, what's the governer at like 98mph? The highway was clear and I had to pee really bad lol.
hit around 115 in the '93 GrandAM
about 110 in the '93 Blazer
127 in the '97 Grand Prix GTP
110 in the '92 Tempo V6
120 in the '92 Tempo 4cyl only took about 15 miles, but it did get up there eventually

Sway_89S10 01-28-2010 06:00 AM

Hmm, in the blazer, the speed limiter is set at 112, in the FireChicken the governor restricts it to a top speed of 90ish lol

samuknow 01-28-2010 06:05 AM

In my 81 camaro with 450 HP, back in 1989 on a Mississippi back road, 145.

swartlkk 01-28-2010 06:38 AM

On a closed course right...! Have to abide by the rules...

We have a defunct air strip near by that I was able to open up quite a few of my vehicles on on a variety of occasions. It was part of the old army depot and is now attached to our fire training center.

1970 Chevelle (386hp, but 2.83 gears in the rear) - 152mph clocked by the state police on the runway - sanctioned event. This was my last run and I had a pretty good tail wind. Running the other way against the wind, I was only able to run 138mph. This was 13+ years ago now...

2001 Bonneville SSEi (with tune & smaller pulley) - 129mph as indicated by the hud. It had more, but I was running out of run way.

2004 Buick Rainier
- speed limiter kicked in at an indicated 117mph. Got there surprisingly fast.

taba5 01-28-2010 07:00 AM

closed course...

1989 Ford Probe GT Turbo 140 -145mph (speedo stops at 120 needle was pointing at the middle of "P" in MPH)

130ish in a c4 vette

97 Bravada: 101mph (limited by ecu)

Illinois State Police in a undercover White Mustang R stated I was doing 131mph in my old 91 civic hatch... so said the summary, and the states attorney... ticket stated 101mph.... the other ticket stated 65mph over in a 65mph zone (130mph)

I was doing bad stuff and I dont recommend it lol, heh, i have a folder packed full of old paid/expunged tickets and receipts-paperwork from attorney fees

Sisk 01-28-2010 07:38 AM

185 in my old civic (that's KM though...not MPH)

hubert hefner 01-28-2010 07:51 AM

130 -in my 83 z28 camaro in high school

wlorton 01-28-2010 08:00 AM

125 in a ford tarus... going down hill... lol....
100 in my old lil mercury tracer wagon....
105 in an 03-04 mustang right before they changed the body style...

Benedict1337 01-28-2010 08:33 AM

rriddle3 01-28-2010 01:42 PM

Even though this is in 'The Lounge', remember the part in the thread title about 'in your car' (and on a closed course, not the street). :)

That must have been the scariest by far. I have a couple of these for around my farm and get cold feet at about 50 on farm trails. They're both '84's though.

nj4x4blaze 01-28-2010 02:09 PM

Pfft I blew the welds off my intake manifold driving so fast in the blazer. lol...

But to stay on topic, I've gone up to 100 mph in the blazer while driving through Ohio on my way in Indy. Now I only average 65-70 mph due to traffic where I live. Btw speeding is dumb, only good that comes from it is a speeding ticket and points on your license. lol

88s10Blazer 01-28-2010 03:10 PM

I wouldn't consider a speeding ticket a good thing lol. What about the rush?

ABN31B 01-28-2010 03:49 PM

i would consider a speeding ticket a good thing IF you look at all of the consquences that could be had from excessive speed (on a closed course)

Thor_449 01-28-2010 03:58 PM

drove 109mph in my blazer...never agian and 90 mph in my dads 99 dodge 2500....that one resulted in a speeding ticket so no more of that :)

wlorton 01-28-2010 04:01 PM

I would love to take some cars out to an airstrip and see how fast they go....

Come on over! We share this one with the state police now who use it for practicing PIT maneuvers, etc. We do our EVOQ course on it. There are SCCA events on it during the summer as well.

bigjon1 01-28-2010 05:13 PM

97 all the way.....Then there was a state trooper hiding between the hills on interstate and got me :(...300 dollars later I now do 75:)

OILCOUNTRY 01-28-2010 06:11 PM

135 in my 96 Mazda MX-3 GS(small 1.8L V6)
it was actually really stable at that speed aswell.
Havnt even tried to top out the Blazer.

Big Keith 01-28-2010 07:06 PM

Ran 9.22@158 in a 68 Nova with 1000hp NOT my car.
165 in 2009 ZR1 corvette NOT my car but I was told to "get on it" so I did:icon_eddie:

jsmz 01-28-2010 07:25 PM

Im not real sure how fast, but it was damn fast, hair raising pants crappin fast.

I had a 91 sonoma short box standard cab that came with a 4 banger & a 5 speed. Ripped its heart out and stuck a 4 bolt main turned 383 stroker with a th400 in it.

That thing was so damn fast it was hard to keep it between the shoulders of the highway when it was hummin down the road. My god it was fast. Never did max it out.

But Ive been in a friends modded 2000 SS camaro that we pegged out at 190 on the freeway, and Im pretty sure the SS wouldnt have stood a chance against my old sonoma. either that or the SS just dealt with the speed better than the sonoma and made it seem slower.

Now that Im getting older though, looking back that stuff was stupid.

abig84 01-28-2010 09:54 PM

never done over 100 in anything ive ever owned. mostly owning fullsized trucks or beater cars i never really tried. had a 07 f150 that im sure could have but it started to sway at like 90 so never bothered going faster.

back when i was younger i was a car porter... so naturally ive seen over 100mph a few times

Benedict1337 01-28-2010 10:28 PM

lol big trucks and high speeds don't mix very well. neither do beater cars..

OILCOUNTRY 01-29-2010 12:30 AM

Yah when I used to work in the truck shop my fav questions guys used to ask me was if the tuners we sold would remove the speed limiter on there truck...never really got that seeing stock trucks don't do high speeds well at all.

old skool luvr 01-29-2010 12:47 AM

fastest period for me, 247KPH in my '92 Jimmy (i said it was stupid fast), so that's just over 153MPH

fastest in my Dart was 11.02 @ 135.47MPH (running 3.91's on a 245/60/R14 street tire).

had my ol' '84 Merc Lynx to just over 170KPH (1.6HO w/3spd auto baby!) :icon_eddie:

toxikchevy 01-29-2010 01:20 AM

117 mph in a buick century and 98 mph in silverado. both got limited by the ecu :icon_no:. 97 in a 95 chevy astro with a full rear and up hill. the pedal was to the floor and the tires shouldnt have went over 45. i gave on that one due to the passengers. havnt topped the blazer yet. im gunna baby here. :icon_shrug:

jsmz 01-29-2010 03:17 AM

lol, old skool 150 in an s-series suv, SCREW THAT! lol.
