Default 97 Blazer new to me

Greetings,
I just registered and am happy to introduce me.
I am a new owner of a green 1997 Blazer LS and really love this vehicle so far. I always have a name for my vehicles so "Slimer" seemed good due to the color and my last mini-van was white named Casper. It's a ghost theme I guess. Most of my life I have driven vans & mini vans mainly due to playing drums.
But this time I decided to go with a Blazer and after looking for awhile found a decent buy at about $2900 out the door. This should fill the cargo space needed for my kit and living NW of Chicago will be great in the winter here. Plus I really like the ride.

Of course I have questions for you but that will be other posts.

Welcome aboard. I lived in Rockford for a while. Can't say I miss the winters.

Thanks, Yeah the winters here can be tough but with 4 wheel drive it should be a bit easier. My alternater just went out and cost me $400 to get it fixed. Is that too much?

Sorry for the late reply. Did you have a dealer do it? That price sounds like a heavy dealer labor cost. If a dealer did it I would say that's probably on par for cost. Depending on which alternator you buy they can run from 160.00 to 77.00. Depending on your comfort level and wrenching abilities I would recommend buying a Hayens or other service manual and start wrenching yourself. Save some cash if you can.

No I had it done at a repair shop that I wanted to try out. They also changed the alternator belt and the oil to be fair.
The alternator was $222.58
Drive belt was $75.00
Oil change was $14.32
The rest was labor
Total $403.01

I looked up the Hayens service manual and it appears they only have it in spanish for 1997 Blazers but I will keep looking because that's a great idea, Thanks.

By the way my daughter lives in Rockford and she has a 94 Blazer.

I don't remember if Auto Zone is in your area. That's where I picked mine up. I also use TheMotorBookstore.com when I need a manual. They have yours for $17.45.
