Default buying a Blazer

Ok so ive got my eye on a 1997,98or a99 4x4 4drblazer. I dont know which one i should get they are all about the same price and in relatively good shape. I have hopes of lifting it and doin alil muddin because ive gotten bored of driving on the streets in my Camaro. My question is out of those three years which is "best" andwhat should i look for mechanically and such? I know that the 97 has 133K miles but im waiting for a reply on the others. Finallywhat kind of gas mileage do these things get? Anything better than 13-17 would be greatbecause thats what my camaro is getting and i do a fair bit of driving.

Thanks, Josh

I get between 16 and 18 mpg in my 98, so I wouldn't look at getting much better. If I drive all highway I get 20.

[sm=welcomesign.gif]to the Forum. Check this thread for mpg information. As for what mechanical issues to watch for, take a little time and use the 'search' function to find some of the many threads we have on the various items. Be sure to report back when you have the odometer readings on the other two vehicles you're considering.

welcome to the forum.

I would say go for the 98-99, they have the newer style interior unlike the 97.

I called the people with the 1999 and its got 170+K so ruled it out... however i found a 95 thats in the color i want and looks pretty cool but i dont like the fact that its lowered and ill end up lifting it.. heres what im looking at right now:

1998
http://seattle.craigslist.org/oly/car/695604582.html

1997
http://seattle.craigslist.org/skc/car/699307454.html

1995
http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/car/697472018.html

I of course would look at em before i buy them but reguardless of the 95s mileage it looks pretty enticing. How much does an engine rebuild for one of these things cost? How much does just the block itself cost? I had planned on buying and buildingbuilding a new block formy camarowith new internals, intake manifold and heads but im tired of the street scene where i can (and have) gotten in big trouble for enjoying my ride... Plus the big ol 5.7L LT1 block is expensive and hard to find. So why not buy a 4.3L block and build it up. What kind of aftermarket do these things have other than offroading accessories?

The 98 has 147K. It looks the nicest and has "ok" mileage for my price range. I think im going to attempt to get it.

well i bought the 98 Blazer. Its an LS and its pretty awesome. Its been sitting for 16 months so the plugs are fouled but i drove nearly an hour on the freeway and burned almost NO gas it was a nice change from driving my camaro which would have burned nearly a quarter of a tank.
