Checking in from North Jersey
Hello all! I'm a gearhead from the northwest corner of the Garden State (No where close to the Parkway or Turnpike, so no exit, nor am I anywhere near the Jersey Shore like those morons on television who aren't even FROM New Jersey), where believe it or not we have farmland, forests and what passes for mountains. I've been wheelin' a 2001 Jeep TJ for many years and still do. Someone gave me a big ole K5 a few years ago that I originally intended to build as a tow rig, but the more I look at it, the more I want to build it up as a trail-only monster. I keep flip flopping: Keep it or get rid of it? But I always come back to having a complete vehicle that I can conceivably get running on its own power for CHEAP, build out of parts I have lying around and beat the snot out of. So I joined this forum hoping for a little motivation to get wrenching come spring. It's about as lame as can be: 1984 K5 with 10 bolts front and rear, 305 4bbl with a 700 trans and an NP208 T-case. I'm thinking about getting the sucker running, bolting on a mild mostly homebuilt lift, Lincoln lock the rear, lunch box the front, throwing on my old Mickey Thompson 33s and wheeling it until I blow up an axle...and then go bigger.
