Hello everybody!
Hi all!
My name is Toby and last week I bought a 93 GMC Jimmy. It's got 155,000 miles on it and I picked it up for $1000 because the guy who owned it was a Mopar guy and didn't want to hang on to it. It was running very rich so I replaced the leaking CMFI injectors and feed lines. I also replaced a missing fuse for the horn circuit and a bad blower motor relay. It's running really well now thanks to all the great information I have found on this forum.
I love the S-series trucks and SUVs. My first car was an 86 S-10 4x4. Currently I have a 92 S-10 that I saved from the junkyard and rebuilt. It's rough but it's the best $800 truck I've ever owned. I also previously had a 94 Jimmy with over 250,000 miles on it that tragically was wrecked. Now I have another Jimmy to drive around in.

The plan is to get it ready for long-term service as a daily driver. I'm a musician and always hauling a lot of gear. The S-series SUV is a perfect choice for that because it's compact enough to get into tight spaces but still holds a lot of stuff. I can easily get drums and a PA system into the back and have plenty of room for other instruments.
To that end, I'm still working on getting it ready for service. I'm currently troubleshooting the 4WD issues. When I got it the front axle wouldn't disengage. The vacuum actuator is working but the cable doesn't want to release. I got it to release by hand but I need to find out what else is going on. Also, the front differential is leaking. It seems to be throwing out oil, moreso at higher speeds. I'm thinking it's probably a bad seal. I'm planning on pulling the front axles and inspecting. When I do that I'll replace the ball joints and possibly tie rod ends, depending on their condition. After that it's a transmission fluid & filter change and then that should complete the mechanical stuff.
For the interior, I'm changing out a few broken vent diffusers and then I'm going to put my nice stereo in it with the iPod connector. I'm also considering building a USB charging station into the shelf at the bottom of the dash so I can charge things like phones and other portable electronics out of sight of the general public.
I'll let you know how it goes as I get things done!
