Default Hello and Help lol

Hello everyone, I'm from Arkansas and just got a 1985 s10 blazer, I can't get the front differential to engage, the transfer case seems to be engaging but not the front wheels? It's a 2.8 liter engine and automatic transmission. Any help would be most appreciated. I will add this is my first 4whl drive, so I'm new to this game lol. Thanks

Welcome and no worries about asking for help. We have all needed it and that is the reason for the forum!

As for your front differential engagement, at least for the later (S10) Blazers, these are engaged via a vacuum actuator. So the thing to check is that whole mechanism.

Is it connected? Is the cable between the actuator and axle free to move? Does the actuator hold a vacuum? Do the hoses of the vacuum system that supplies the vacuum hold vacuum? Are these hoses even connected?

At least for the mid-nineties Blazers and later, the vacuum hoses will degrade and leak. Because the HVAC system is also run by vacuum actuators, the lack of vacuum due to leaks will cause this system to not work properly either.

Good luck with your repairs and let us know what the problem was and the remedy.
