Hi, 4.3L S10 from 1991 here.
Hi,
I aquired an 1991 S10 Blazer with the 4.3L engine and I'm having fun with it!
My mechanic basically said I should just get rid of it as fast as I can, but I decided to take it on and make it work so I could drive it around, which I actually did.... I bought the Chilton repair manual from amazon and did the necessary repairs myself.
So far, I replaced the intake manifold gasket and the water pump. Next on the list are the CV half axles (some of the boots are loose/open on one end, and one of them is actually cracked open)... then, I guess I should do something about the loose steering.
So... you'll probably see me ask a lot of questions about repairs etc.
I do like the car, especially that its chassis is so massive and solid, but you can also put a decent size futon in the back and just camp out in the desert... I think the best vehicle for the purpose I have come across.
....here comes the sad part though!!
On my last trip, unfortunately a bigger problem occurred, the engine just shut off in the middle of interstate traffic, but I managed to get to the right lane and bring it to a halt on the shoulder.
Not sure what the problem is... so, that's how I ended up here.
I really want to fix this problem, I'm going to post a more detailed description in a new thread.
...if you have any suggestions, I'd love to hear them.
Best,

Welcome from New York. I hope you get the truck all figured out.

Thanks for the welcome DKSDAD!
Just to tell how the story continued: I just got it to run again this afternoon, it turned out what it needed was a new alternator - it had locked up and was blocking the engine via the fan belt, so the starter motor couldn't crank it.
Not the worst thing, but I needed to invest in a new alternator.
At least the engine isn't jammed.
Now it runs again just fine.
...we'll see what's next. At this age I guess anything can happen...

Welcome!
For the loose steering, they are bad for idle arms to go bad and cause this. Id check that 1st.
