Welcome. I am also a Wisconsinite. Where you at? I am in Appleton.

If you have a floor shift I would stop put it in neutral or park to switch to 4hi or 4lo. If you have a push button I think it is okay to switch into 4hi as long as you are below 25mph. For 4Lo you must be in neutral or park. What it will do if you are not in park or neutral is switch to 4hi and then flash the 4lo light till you put it in park or neutral, then it will switch into 4lo. As far as I know it was an option on all first gens to have push button, but most are floor shift levers. From 1998 models on they were all electronic shifting.
