Hi all...just realized this morning that I had registered here a while ago, guess it is about time to speak up!

Not really "new" to Blazers...leased a new 2000 back in Dec of '99 and liked it a lot. Swapped that for a '02 Trailblazer, didn't like that too much so after that lease was up found another good used 2000 for a good price and bought that for the Mrs. to drive. At a little over 100K I have done a front end rebuild, not much of anything else. It needs a slight amount of body work after an encounter with a deer on a CO mountain road though!

Also have a '89 that I picked up a few weeks ago (600 bucks and I drove it home...can't complain!). It needed a rear window (20 bucks from a salvage yard), few interior pieces, the usual paint flaking. After inspecting the front end determined that the idler and pitman arms were worn out, so replaced those this past weekend. Tie rod ends and ball joints are all fine. Cat/muffler have already been replaced. Need to replace the oil filter lines...yeah they're leaking really bad. I really can't find any other major mechanical issues...it runs great, transmission shifts nice 'n smooth, oil looks fine.

Well guess that's about it...I'm sure I'll have many more questions to come!

Bill

Welcome.

I think I need to run through the front end of my 01. It is a little sloppy going down the road. how tough is it to do? And about how much did it run ya?

Hey...sorry for the delayed reply!

The idler arm is a piece 'o cake (altho grease doesn't make the best icing in the world!). The pitman arm is a little more work since you have to remove the steering gear to get the pitman arm off. For the pitman arm you will also need to get a specific pitman arm puller. I "rented" it from Autozone..18 bucks that is refunded when the tool is returned.

Tie rod ends aren't horribly difficult...as long as you have a pickle fork to seperate the old ones (that goes for the idler/pitman arms to tie rod also). Ball joints on the 2000 were a pain in the neck...I ended up taking the control arms to a buddy of mine that had the appropriate press for removal/installation of the ball joints.

On the 2000 the whole job ended up being 200-something in the end...of course any outside labor (like ball joint pressing) will be extra.

If things are getting "sloppy" the difference in handling after the rebuild is night and day! (as one would expect).

Of course don't forget it will need a front end alignment!
