Hiya Guy's 😀 . Just thought I'd pop in & say hey 😀 I'm a 47 yr old mechanic & general contractor here in the greater Boise area of Southwest Idaho. My friends & I are ol' skool hot rodders & I've owned and built my fair share of full size Chevy / GMC trucks. However I recently picked up my first s10, a pretty nice 98 Blazer LS 4 door 😀 .
Granted it needs a little work, mostly basic maintenance and PM service stuff other than that the rest is minor cosmetics. Flight center overall I like it and I think after a bath and a little tweaking it'll be a pretty nice little rig 😆 ..
Welcome from a fellow Blazer owner in North Idaho!
Looks like you have a pretty clean model. I've noticed that there are still a good number of these Blazers in the wrecking yards so that finding non-mechanical parts (for now) is not too hard. I was able to find a pristine replacement rear carpet for my 99 a couple years ago in Spokane.
Although I keep telling myself that I will someday get a 4Runner, I then look at the prices and wince! With the major items on mine fixed or upgraded, I'm hoping to get many more years out of mine. A friend in Mountain Home recently decided he was going to start modifying his for overlanding! And he already has an almost new 4wd F350 with a camper. I think he figures the Blazer would be more nimble in tight places. To that I would whole-heartedly agree!
Be sure to look up the sticky thread that lists the major issues that can pop up with our Blazers. The ones that I would argue are likely the two most important because they could cause a catastrophic, i.e., expensive, failure, are the lower intake manifold (LIM) gaskets failing with little or no warning and the one that I did to myself, towing my boat in overdrive so that I burned out my transmission.
