I Come From Alabama
I'm a new (to me) Blazer owner, a 1998 4-door LS. She is rough, but straight with no rust or major damage. In total, all the little fix-its that she will require would be a huge deal breaker for many, and many would consider the little blazer to be a total loss... But there was a little spark in the ride that made me think, "I can fix this..." Not many in my circle would stand back and look at the vehicle as a whole, and say yeah, she could be all that and so much more. Funny, the car has only run twice for me; once to get her home, and a second time to move it where she sits now, next to my tool shop. As bad as she ran, I only pulled two codes: P0102-99 & P0300-B9. Probably two of the worst codes to get, so I have my work cut out for me.
So I gave too much for the Blazer initially, and have already dropped another grand on her from both Rock Auto and Oreilly's. Just the basics: Radiator, plugs, wires, fuel, air and oil filter, door pin rebuild kits etc etc. I picked up both a Hanes and a Chilton, before realizing they are the same manuals...
With 179,000 miles on her, the former owner(s) did little if any maintenance. From this point forward, I have drawn a line on the calendar, and aim to replace every maintainable item, so I can keep a coherent maintenance schedule for myself. I would love to get another 179,000 out of the vehicle.
Any way, off to the technical threads for research, just writing to say hi, and that I am glad to here!

This is the place to get help to keep your Blazer on the road.
Look for the thread with the common problems and issues as a good start.
Of the possible issues, one sticks out as a possibly causing a catastrophic failure: the lower intake manifold (LIM) gaskets failing and dumping coolant into the lifter valley.
The late 90s 4.3s had this issue. There are reaary good writeups on the forum.
