Default New here and general Blazer question

Hi All,

I currently have a 92 Ford Explorer, but am thinking about replacing it with a slightly newer S10 Blazer, probably 94-97. My question is this. Are there any inherent problems with any particular Blazers? For instance, I know the first generation Explorers were prone to pinging problems (which mine has in spades) and transmission problems (which mine also has). I'm just looking for some advice to make an informed decision. Thanks in advance for any help.

BTW, I had a 73 GMC Jimmy many years ago. I sure do miss that truck. But I need something smaller and more fuel efficient.

Jim,

First and foremost, welcome to the forum. You've come to the right place.

As far as the Blazer is concerned, every vehicle has its downsides and will have problems with something; however, the 4.3L that you will find in these trucks is an excellent motor. It's the same for Astros, S10s, Blazers, and even some half-ton Silverados. (Not to mention the Oldsmobile, and GMC versions) Transmissions will treat you how you treat them. I have 130,000 miles on my tranny and have never had a problem. You'll never have trouble finding parts for it because they're everywhere, and most things are fairly easy to work on.

If you would run into some trouble, you know where to come.

just avoid off name garbage for tuneups (ac delco is your friend) and the fuel pressure regulator going bad seems fairly common but easy fix doesnt cost too much and i've never known anyone to have to replace it more than once.

ball joints, wiper motors (which there is a fix on here somewhere) fuel gauge will probably be off a bit.

welcome to the forum, blazers have problems just like any other vehicle in this world, and if your looking for something with good gas mileage, i don think you should have picked a blazer for that instance, but thats my opinion.

I've had my 95 blazer for 11 years. The only issue I've had is replacing the CPI fuel injection, also know as the "spider". I've already had to replace it twice- about every 4 years, and I'm about due. Otherwise the trucks been great
