Hi! new member to the forums. I've had a number of Blazers in the day. Black ZR2, pewter ZR2 5 speed with sunroof, and I now have a red ZR2 with 200K on it. I've had the current ZR2 since 2015 - going on 9 years now. Just finished a 200K service, oil pump, timing chain, water pump, seals, etc. I figure it's good for another 150K now. I have checked out Blazer forums for some of the normal stuff and usually read good stuff. I thought it was time to join, as there are fewer and fewer of these around.

Welcome!

What prompted you to do the timing chain? Where there symptoms? Was it very hard to deal with the timing cover?

No symptoms - The oil pan was leaking. That's what started it all really. Since the pan was coming down, I decided to do the oil pump. I wasn't completely sold on the leak only being the oil pan. The front main seal is in the cover, so that was coming off anyway. I just decided to replace the wear items while I was doing all the stuff to fix the oil pan leak. The harmonic balancer was dried out and crumbled when I got it off - 2 pieces! I just kept changing stuff as I got to them. Since the water pump was exposed - might as well change that too. So, it was really a reliability based decision to just replace a bunch of stuff while I was there. Once everything is off - the cover is not too bad! I tried a cover only replacement years ago and had to drop the oil pan a bit to get the front lip out, so knew that the pan had to at least drop down.
