We've had our '99 Blazer for 10 years and had no major issues with it until now. Unfortunately the shop estimated maintenance costs have exceeded the KBB value and I've started to have to do the work to it myself.

What I've found is that Chevy really designed this truck well. It's easy to work on. Things come apart and reassemble very logically.

Here it is when we bought it:

And now:

Still in great shape inside and out and other than some minor oil leaks (and some recent repair work that I've done to it) it's a great truck!

Repair photos are here: http://flickr.com/gp/dan-ger/o0jYhL.

I've also got an '01 Yukon that I use for work and wheelin':

Welcome to the forum, and yeah it does seem like the S10 series is pretty easy to work on overall. You got any mods in mind?

No mods in mind yet. For now, I'm getting my mechanical skills back in shape by replacing the oil pan and oil cooler line adapter gaskets. For me it means pulling the front dif to get to everything.

My son is in the USAF basic training right now and I have intentions of giving it to him as a graduation gift...assuming he gets assigned to a base within a day driving distance. That means I've got about 6 weeks to get it all put back together again.

If I do end up keeping it, I'm not entirely sure what I'll do with it. My Yukon is modded with a Rancho 4" suspension lift and 33" tires so it's my fun machine but at 13mpg, it's also a pig. It's likely the Blazer will become my cheaper daily driver.

Now that's better! A newbie with pics! LOL

Welcome from New Zealand - the home of RHD Blazers.

Nice trucks.

By the way, the Blazer is supposed to be dirty! Prefferably covered in MUD! LOL

Our Blazer was until recently my wife's commuter car. When we originally bought it, I was driving a 3/4-ton Suburban 4x4. The 454 got about 10mpg.

I bought my Yukon new in '01 with a decent amount of luxury options. Don't think for an instant that the luxury options decrease the off-road capability of this truck. It came stock with front and rear lockers. In fact, my son and I did a 4x4 expedition through Moab when it was still stock.

Once I finished paying it off I got it lifted.

Since some of the work that I do is off road, it's important for me to have a full-size 4x4 as a work truck. As much as I would love to use the Blazer for that, it doesn't have the interior space that I need for some of the equipment that I need to haul off road. It also doesn't have the trailer capacity that I occasionally need for work.

It's also very useful as a bike and people hauler since my other passion is Mountain Biking.
