New from Michigan
Hello everyone,
My name is Brent, I live in Michigan. I am a prior service combat vet, and just got hired as a personal banker.
I am currently looking to purchase my first Blazer and have focused on two different ones. The first is an 02' 2dr 4x4 with 72k miles for $4,200 the other is a 00' 4dr 4x4 with 89k miles for $4,900. Both appear to be in good condition with no rust.
I have a few questions in regarding Blazers:
Is there anything I should specifically focus on when looking at these vehicles before making a purchase?
How difficult is standard maintenance? Brakes, spark plugs, fuel filter, etc, etc. I have a basic mechanical ability, I've done all the basic maintenance on various vehicles: Cherokees, Comanche, Corolla, Camry, Stealth, Corvette.
How reliable overall are these Blazers? I am looking for a commuter with the ability to do some off-roading in regards to hunting/camping.
Thank you for your help!

Hey, I'm also from Michigan, and just purchased an 00 blazer. I had a 96 for years. I've not had any major problems with my blazers.(other than my front differential goin out but that was my own fault) There's been a bunch of little things through the years, but over all I've been happy with them. I had a blazer for 7 years and a ford truck for a year and am now back into a blazer. As a person who's not had a lot of experience working on cars I found my 96 blazer fairly easy to work on. Blazers have their quirks, but everyone I know who has owned one loves them. My brother has A 2000 Jimmy and loves it. I don't go off roading but there are others on here who have done it and it seems like they do pretty good from the articles I've read. If you have a basic knowledge of mechanics you shouldn't find it too hard to work on a blazer.

Welcome fellow michigander. For your options of buying the 2dr or 4dr I would ask yourself how many people do you plan to ride along. I have a 2dr with two young children and wish now I wouldve maybe got a 4dr. My first new vehicle was a 99 s10 pickup 4x4 that I loved and had for almost 200k miles before selling and getting my 04 blazer in 2010. Not hard to do any fixes that can be done by the average DIYer. Good luck and let us know how the purchase turns out.
