Hi all!

After browsing for used Blazers and saving up cash for more than 6 months, I was finally able to drive home with a 1997 Blazer LT (4 door, 4WD) some days ago, paid in full. It came with a CEL and error code for hard 1-2 gear shift, so I will be replacing the transmission eventually, possibly with an upgraded valve body. (Found an amazingly insightful post by a pro transmission rebuilder on the common issues with the 4L60E on a Chevy Avalanche forum, may refer to this later.) Have found a used replacement transmission already.

Could be I'm biased from having had a year long crush on 2nd generation Blazers without owning one before I finally do now, but I'm totally loving mine already. So does my 2 year old son ! I know the Blazers have earned something of a reputation for its common problems but I still just had to have one. Can't stop choosing 1990s US cars anyway it seems (had two Chrysler minivans and a 1995 Ford Explorer to be sold now).

My Blazer came with an OBDII reader and the Haynes Manual, great tires and 217,000km on the odometer (that's about 135,000 miles). I need to replace front sway bar bushings and the rear wiper motor, fluid and filter changes etc. when I get around to it, but as far as I can tell there are no major issues other than the transmission thing.

I'm basically a gearhead with a dislike for anything I can't sort out myself one way or the other, I can read&write English and have a ton of tools. Only thing missing is spare time (farm, a toddler and a baby, work etc.)...

I know I'll be finding good info in here. The guy from Fredrikstad who sold me the Blazer has been lurking here too, not sure if he ever signed up. If there's something useful that I can contribute with, I will.
