Hey I'm new to theat forum I have a 2001 chevy blazer xtreme. I've always loved the body style couldn't pass up on it when it fell into my lap.
I'm having trouble with my hood latch not locking in place the cable is junk but did not think it would cause my hood
To pop up when I hit a bump. Should I buy a new latch assembly or keep pumping wd40 on it?

There are several reasons why your hood latch may be popping open, It could be that the cable isn't releasing fully which in turn isn't allowing the latch to completely close on the hood striker, inspect the hood release cable for damage and/or excessive friction while pulling the release lever. lubricate the cable inside of the cable sheath with WD40. Remove the end of the cable from the latch and have someone work the release lever while you spray as much WD40 into the end of the as possible, It's gonna get messy, have rags handy, if that doesn't free up the cable then replace the cable.
The latch may not be aligned correctly with the hood catch pin which also would cause the latch to fail to close completely, loosening the bolts on the latch will allow you to adjust the location of the latch, it may need to be raised higher or to the left or right. The latch itself may be rusted and worn, in which case you'll want to replace it with a new latch. Take your time to closely inspect the operation of the latch alignment / latching. It's pretty straight forward stuff, I'm confident that you'll have it fixed with a little patience and close inspection. Good luck to ya.
