Default Rock River WY czeching in.

Made one 'thank you' post already, on a thread thats helping me with a problem.
I'm really a VW fan, have been for years. I need another one, I sorta understand the mechanics on bugs; but now I find myself relying on a '91 K5 with the off-road package for my hauling commutes. Its a workhorse when its running right, so I shouldn't complain too much.
16mpg is the most I can seem to squeeze out of it, which I've been told isn't bad for a large older vehicle.
I'm a 50yr old survival nut. Got 40ac 70mi from a real town, and 28mi off the pavement, that I'm trying to turn into a ranch. I'm also a HAM radio operator & all around sportsman.
Looking forward to reading more informative posts.

Thanks man.
Had my work partner (wind turbines) over tonight.
I have to pick up more tools (yippee) tomorrow. We're gonna change the wheel bearings as we upgrade to manual hubs.
He thinks my problem arose from mismatched tires, front vs rear, that the previous owner had on it. As best we can tell it hasn't hurt the differential nor the xfer case.
G'nite.

Welcome to the forum, i'm a fan of the old Beetles, i was tempted to buy an old '73 in orange but it needed to much work. At 16, you only have so much money, 4 years later, i still wish i bought it.... The ranch sounds like it'll be a fun thing to have

Welcome!

Rock River is some pretty desolate country, though Flaming Gorge is close and PLENTY of offroad adventures abound. And I know the snow can get plenty deep up that way! I think you'll find the K5 will work out just fine for you once you get the bugs worked out.

We still have a mix of green & white, with large drifts at 8000', both at work and where my ranch house is. Rock River itself is fairly clear at 7400'.
I figure we've got one more good snow coming before our short summer. As a matter of fact we had flurries on Wednesday.
