GPS doesn't need a connection. So as long as the app doesn't need to download a map........

Looks like I have to walk this one back for a bit. Seems GPX viewer uses Google Maps by default, and GPX files are not really maps like I assumed. So unless I can find/import a downloaded map into GPX viewer it wouldn't do me any good without a connection. Looking into OSM map files.

Here's what seems to be a better one. Avenza Maps App. You download maps from their app store (many are free). Then your GPS shows where you are on the map. National Parks Maps are absolutely beautiful and free. This one works without connection.

My local ranger station actually recommended Avenza when I was asking them about ATV riding in the forest. I have yet to use it, but I read good things. I may have to give it a shot.
