Default Lift Kit.....

I am thinking about maybe putting a body lift on my blazer, so I can put some bigger tires on 'er. Just wondering how much do they usually run (2 or 3 inch) and how hard is it to put on?? would it be better to just buy the kit and bring itto a place and let them do it?? Thanks.

Default RE: Lift Kit.....

Heh, im actually in the same boat as you. I have a couple words of the wise on this. First is that on a stock s-10 blazer you "should" be able to fit 30" tires with no problems and minimal rubbing. 31" tires fit as well but any off roading or even certain speed bumps will cause rubbing (im speaking from experience :P). In terms of lifts, body lifts are cheap and run around $200-$250 and will allow you to clear 31" tires with no problems. Here is the downfall though, most 4x4 blazers have a really obnoxiously huge subframe that hangs low, so to get the most of your tires and lift i might reccommend gettinga 2 inch suspension lift. This way you get the two inches and more ground clearance. Plus most kits get ya new shocks, and a-arms, and bushings, etc. Another big advantage is that you dont have to use bumper relocation brackets and you dont have a unsightly gap under your truck. Now as for the bad news, suspension lifts seem to bea littleexpensive (around $650 for a2 inch lift) but they are worth it. Also it does require releasing your torsion bars which can be a little dangerous if you arent careful. Ideally though i say get both if ya can . Myself im on a tight budget so im probably gonna go body lift myself but i want the suspension lift.

In either case though i say do it yourself. Most 4x4 shops will charge ya an arm and a leg to install these so it makes sense to do it yourself or with a couple buddies. Both will only take the good part of a day to do if you're dinkin' around so just pick a saturday and go to it.
