Brings a tear to my eye... I think my blazer looked 10x better than my 4runner

xgiovannix12 12-08-2011 09:53 PM

yea the blazer was a sweet truck

NVANZEE 12-08-2011 11:12 PM

Wait.... you sold the blazer? How did i not know this?

Benedict1337 12-09-2011 03:18 PM

ha no I didn't sell it its still sitting in front of my house it died in April. here is how it sits now.

FsTFwRd 12-09-2011 04:09 PM

If I read correctly, Water got it right?

Benedict1337 12-10-2011 03:15 AM

Yep big puddle killed it

Aanenson 12-10-2011 09:23 AM

what kind of lift is the blazer?

Benedict1337 12-10-2011 07:33 PM

2" tbars and shackles with 31's

xgiovannix12 12-10-2011 07:35 PM

so water got into the block right ?

engine seized right up ?

Benedict1337 12-11-2011 06:01 PM

no the engine still runs. I think I bent at least one rod enough that its not getting the right compression. It has no power and backfires a lot

89Recon 12-11-2011 08:41 PM

that is a horrible thing to happen to any vehicle especially a blazer I feel for ya man *moment of silence* ............... ok so I actually had a question for you while I'm at it, you cranked your t-bars 2" is that safe to do and how much more wear and tear will it cause?

Benedict1337 12-11-2011 08:54 PM

its safe, but it'll kill your front end parts i was replacing hubs and cv axles every few months, now of corse I got the more expensive parts with lifetime warranties so it didn't cost me any money but its just more of a pain to keep replacing stuff

89Recon 12-11-2011 10:58 PM

So it wouldn't be a good idea to go 2" on my daily driver just stick with 1.5" ?

Benedict1337 12-12-2011 08:57 AM

I wouldn't crank them at all to be honest. get a body lift if you want to fit 31's

89Recon 12-12-2011 12:33 PM

Oh .... okay I guess I will have to rethink my plan then. I was originally going to do a 1.5" t bar crank, 2" rear lift shackles and a 3" body lift and run 33's. I have heard from some other people on here though not to run bigger than 31's on a stock diff what will happen if I run 33's or will it be fine ?

Benedict1337 12-12-2011 03:18 PM

you will lose a lot of power and get bad gas millage. I would strongly suggest to regear to 3.73 gears or 4.10's

Mike98Blazer 12-12-2011 05:14 PM

Damn dude why the heck didn't you ever respond to my threads. I go to rausch creek alot, IDC if you have a 4Runner get your arse up there with me.

BTW if you come out my way there's a yard in new ringgold we could probably get a motor for the blazer from cheap.

Also if you're still selling parts off the blazer....if you've still got the tire carrier or bull bar i might pick them up off ya.

But either way get back to me and lets go hit up rausch.

89Recon 12-12-2011 05:35 PM

I would rather just stick with 31's than change gears and everything else

Is it still sitting on those rims? any possibility they are up for sale?

Benedict1337 01-17-2012 10:10 PM

I gave the blazer to my gf's dad

USMC3782 01-18-2012 08:00 PM

Damn I could have thrown you an engine cheap enough. Go buy another stat!

atvwarrior 01-23-2012 11:14 AM

Benedict I'm sorry to read about your loss , but on the up side now you can throw a v8 in the old girl . Oops didn't realize I was on the first page and didn't read the hole story .

skotti 01-27-2012 11:24 PM

haha i almost did the same thing atvwarrior.

was just going to offer to give him the 4.3 i just yanked out of mine.

Thogert 01-28-2012 01:29 AM

See what happens when you get rid of a blazer? Let that be a lesson to you, for when you get another one. ;)

Benedict1337 01-28-2012 02:30 AM

Don't think I'd get another blazer.... my toyota in better is just about every way. I don't think the engine was the only issue along with that blazer, maybe at the moment it is, but something else is wrong with it and I could never put my finger on it. It lasted me a good 3 years and 45,000 miles died a month before I paid it off...

CraigSnedeker 01-29-2012 02:07 PM

are you liking the 4runner better then the blazer, performance wise?

Benedict1337 01-29-2012 08:36 PM

At my blazers prime it had more power than the 4runner. From the factory the blazer has 10 hp more than the 4runner. Blazer has a 4.3, 4runner has a 3.4. The 4runner is "quicker" than the blazer but then again it has 4.10 gears, the blazer had 3.42 gears. Surprisingly my 4runner is slightly larger than my blazer but has a better turning radius as I found out wheeling at rausch creek. Also the 4runner has overdrive and a button called ECT power. Many refer to "extra power" however it stands for electronically controlled transmission and if you turn that on the transmission won't shift until its over 4000rpm's which is kinda cool I guess if you were street racing, I've only used it once to see it shift at higher rpms and it really does. The 4runner has much more suspension travel (coils work better than leaf springs). It rides a lot nicer than the blazer. My 4runner has an lsd in the front and rear so all 4 of my tires spin. I have a manual shifting transfer case (less things to break). It has more ground clearance than my blazer (not sure the exacts I'd have to measure again).

Bottom line:

4runner Pro's
-Rides nice
-Quick
-Decent Gas millage
-Superior 4x4
-Ground Clearance
-More interior space
-Decent amount of aftermarket parts available
-Reliability (mine has almost 170,000 miles on mostly original parts and theres a 200k mile club on the 4runner forums)

4runner Con's
-Doors, hood, and trunk don't feel very "solid"
-Lack of power
-More difficult to work on
-Doesn't look that great
-Body Rust

Blazer Pro's
-Power
-Solid (solid doors ect.)
-Looks good
-Easy to work on
-Cheap to fix (most of the time)
-4.3 is reliable (never had one problem with my engine and put almost 50k miles on it)
-Body holds up (mine didn't have any rust anywhere)

Blazer Con's
-Rough ride
-Lousy 4x4 (push button + open diffs+ torsion bars)
-Not a whole lot of interior space
-Gas hog
-Limited aftermarket parts available
-Sluggish (gearing should be at least 3.73's in all blazers)

Both has advantages and disadvantages.

A blazer is perfect for someone who doesn't feel the need to lift/mod his truck but needs 4 wheel drive and wants a dependable good looking car.

4runner is good for someone who enjoys off roading and refuses to buy a jeep.

Blazin_Jason 01-29-2012 09:19 PM

Not ever owning a runner, but knowing those who have I can see and agree with your list. Only thing needed to improve the 4runner is to swap the engine!

USMC3782 01-30-2012 04:29 AM

I will take a real toyota hilux 2.4d 5 speed single cab over either all day. May allow a 4 door cab. When I was in africa we used thes to move marines to posts on base. Damn rugged and relible fo what we did to them
The blazer would be more fun for a month and then the climate would own it for sure. Hiluxes never die. Top gear proved it.

Loved that last bit, lol

Benedict1337 01-30-2012 03:49 PM

lol it describes me perfectly, I refuse to buy a jeep. Yea I totally agree about the hiluxes. I just watched the first episode of season 18 and lol its still on display on the set. There has been several people on the 4runner forum that have done the v8 tundra swap its pretty cool. I would preffer a pickup as well but tacoma's are soooo expensive...

Thogert 01-30-2012 04:01 PM

I love me the looks of tacoma's.

Not to Join in on the Blazer hatin, but if i could find one of these at a reasonable price i would have already bought one,
http://i1115.photobucket.com/albums/...a/DSCF0077.jpg

Now don't get me wrong i love working on my blazer, but it has an endless amount of issues, and the combination of the 95 engine and 3.42 gearing its not the quickest most powerful thing around.

That being said, i have no real stacks of cash so the blazer is what i got. Just gonna keep working on it.

Benedict1337 01-30-2012 05:48 PM

I'd like to swap the front end off of one of those on my 4runner it looks really badass

CraigSnedeker 01-30-2012 07:12 PM
