POLL: Do you have a winch & if so, what kind?
This was originally started by mysons95 but without the poll.
Please vote in the poll and post your comments and, if you have a winch, why you chose the style you have chosen. |
RE: POLL: Do you have a winch & if so, what kind?
No winch... (the poll is erroring out) bummer
and needed it just last night. I`ll post a longer version of this story later, but for now... I finished installing my homemade posi-lock and had to test it by going mudding. :) The posi-lock worked flawlessly. But, I slipped on some greasy mud and started edging for a 3.5` ditch with about 12" of water in it. Every time I pressed the gas pedal, I slipped further into the ditch. And a tree only about 40 feet away. I needed that winch really bad...that and a couple of tow straps. A farmer pulled me out with his GMC truck and three 20` tow straps. Glad it wasn`t a Ford (cough). |
RE: POLL: Do you have a winch & if so, what kind?
Needs a mechanical option too:D
I've got a high lift jack which can be used as a winch. Also if anyones got a come along? |
RE: POLL: Do you have a winch & if so, what kind?
Electric winch here.
|
RE: POLL: Do you have a winch & if so, what kind?
Well... Was a thought... I would have thought that they would have had the polls fixed by now.
I have a come along, strap, and a high lift. When I build the bumpers for my K5, I think I am going to put 2" receivers in both front and rear bumpers, then make 2" mounts for a winch. Then I can move it from front to back as necessary. |
RE: POLL: Do you have a winch & if so, what kind?
Yea...I looked at the hitch mount winch plates....100 some odd dollars for a piece of flat steel with a square tube on it..I reallllly need to learn to weld.
|
RE: POLL: Do you have a winch & if so, what kind?
i have a hand operated winch and abt 150 of high quality tow straps:D
knowing how to wled help out ALOT... my dad tought me....just look at that push bar.lol |
RE: POLL: Do you have a winch & if so, what kind?
OK, so along the line of a come-a-long, tell me what you have. Provide links if you can.
Cable or chain come-a-long and why? And why is there such a huge difference in price? Isn`t a 4 ton a 4 ton? But I saw one for $30 and one for $395. |
RE: POLL: Do you have a winch & if so, what kind?
Cheap cable come along until my bumper is built and I make the winch plates, then I'm prolly going with a mile marker cause the dealer up the road is cutting me a good price.

RE: POLL: Do you have a winch & if so, what kind?
I can't be the only person on here that has a winch, can I?
|
RE: POLL: Do you have a winch & if so, what kind?

RE: POLL: Do you have a winch & if so, what kind?
no i have a winch warn 3000 pound works well i have it set up on a plate that has chains on each corner so you can put the tow chains on the frount bumper or the rear and pull people or your self out and it stows in the bac of the blazer esay

RE: POLL: Do you have a winch & if so, what kind?
Nopes... no winch here.
No Trees to tie off to :( |
RE: POLL: Do you have a winch & if so, what kind?
That's what fence posts are for. Even if you have to drive it in the ground yourself. I carry a fence post and post driver with me when I go out.

RE: POLL: Do you have a winch & if so, what kind?

I am not a fan of winch not think you need to carry extra 50 kilograms. as I have not.

anyone run pto's on here??? those are where it's at
|
i have a ramsey 6000. just got it and i am in the process of fab ing a mount system for it.
|
jeeze keiin ive seen people grow trees in their rain gutters around here
but never in their rear bumper |
I use a hi-lift... it can be placed between two chains and "winched" together, or what I usually do is jack the entire end of the truck as high as I can and then simply push the whole thing over... then do the same for the front. Works everytime.
|
My other truck has a Warn 8000lb electric winch. Used it a few times. Worth the $$$ IMHO.
Sometimes for the recovery of friends trucks, and some times for my own recovery. |
i have a Warn 9.5xp. i mostly use it on my trailer for hauling up lifeless hulks, i usually just push the little s**ts on myself, hahahaha!
i've used it twice-once on my Jimmy, once on my Blazer-for recovery of someone else (it's bolted to this hugh cage/plate, the goes into the hitch receiver (gotta fab a hidden one on the front of my Blazer still). |

i got a warn xd9000i i originally got it as the removeable hitch set up cause i didnt want to leave it on the truck as the truck was a 50/50 street offroad truck. http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y14...anwinch3-4.jpg it was nice could i could store it out of the weather when it wasnt in use. as of lately though its been on my s10 http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y14...badlands38.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y14...IMG00700-1.jpg a winch is by far the best thing i ever bought. saved me so many times. and a few times even saved my truck. heres a instance. went up this hill and started to slide off the side (hard to tell by angle of cam). if anyone tried to move me it would have just continued to slide off the side. so i had to winch up the hill and lower myself down the side http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y14/abig84/ukyt1.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y14...DSCF0067-2.jpg had to spin myself 180degrees to get out of this mess http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y14...IMG00435-1.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y14...IMG00436-1.jpg great for changing tires too. when you have walls on both sides http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y14...DSCF0078-4.jpg and the harbor freight winch for the trailer http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y14.../winch8000.jpg |
Love the pic of the truck in the drainage tube! Where was that taken?
Is that a Paragon flag on your truck? |
The tube was from the badlands in attica indiana. I think the flag is from the cliffs in illinois

lol you don't plan on getting stuck.
I've always lived by "if you haven't been stuck, you haven't been 4 wheeling" |

I have a 92 blazer s10 4.3L V6 5 speed dead stock with but anyway I also have a 6000LB warn winch and here is a pic of my buddy stuck in mud at stave lake bc, that day I pulled out about 8 ppl with my winch, but he was the only person in this particular spot that I couldnt get out with my winch, trying to pull him out, my blazer was actually pulling towards him, so our buddy pulled him out with his trooper and tow straps
|
i'm sure glad i had my winch tonight!
i had to drag my busted-ass, siezed rear drums, Jetta onto my trailer earlier tonight. was going to resurrect it, but after i ripped out the rear frame rail & factory recovery point on it, i just winched it up onto the trailer, probably gonna send it to the recyclers. ya for the big 9000lb winch. saved my ass tonight. |

I've got a winch, but it's in the closet until I weld me up some receiver hitches for the front and back with a pinned mounting plate. |
I dont have one but i should probably get one when i get a job haha
|
I have an 8500 lb SUPERWINCH.
Considering my Blazer snowcat weighs in around 8000 lbs and of course the particular resistance when you are winching it has been amazing. I use one pulley block with it. I blew my rear end a couple years back and i had to winch it 500 yards back to my place. I did it over two days, about 75 feet at a time, cabling to every tree along the way but it did it, and the winch never burned out! I did realise I need an auxillary battery if I really wanted to speed thing up. I would have to let the engine idle and charge battery without winching once in awhile. I bought the winch on sale at a store here in Canada called Princess Auto. It was such an amazing cheap price I didnt think I could go wrong. $329.00! It owes me nothing after that escapade! |
