I too am interested in the same thing as you. I was just going to by 3/8" sheet metal and custom fabricate it all and use my welder I never get a chance to use. Those skid plates look good, but they dont protect the most important areas such as the transfer case and trany...

Look for a truck with RPO package ZM5 at the junkyard. You'll need all three skid plates and the mounting brackets for the transfer case skid plate.

The factory skid plates (either composite or aluminum) are pretty good.

Without a brake, you'll drive yourself nuts trying to make them yourself.

I'm having the same problem. I tore all of the plastic skids off my truck I almost blew a hole through the gas tank. I won't go off roading untill I get new ones. I want some steel ones but they don't make them. I went to the dealer and they don't carry new plates. I may try to make some up at school. It sucks the only plates you can get are aluminum or composite or plastic. All 3 are junk.

I guess anything is better than nothing but mud tears them off. And breaks them
