Default Telephone line trails?

I had heard about people offroading on telephone line trails (and there are a TON of good ones in tennessee)

Lets say i decided to go out with a friend or two and follow the trail, is it illegal and can i get in trouble for it?

Around here in Raleigh all those trails are illegal. Progress Energy is our power/electric company and they own the land beneath the lines, their responsible for the maintenance, etc.. Most powerline trails down here are already tagged with No Trespassing signs, and the ones guys have already tried and rutted up get either large boulders dropped at the edge of the road by the entrances, or the company will dig a very large, very deep trench at the entrance.

I would say that if you don't see any no trespassing signs out, you'll probably be ok. Then again you always risk the chance that it's privately owned land and the power/phone company leases the space from the owner.

I wouldn't go on those trails, just in case they did do something to the trail were you can't see and come flying around and wreck!!

I've found some similar trails out in wilsonville oregon, i just go at night and turn my lights off when i'm in an open area i've never had any trouble with the cops though. My advice would be go for it! but don't stay around too long...

Yes most power/railway paths are owned by the company...definitely not if no trespassing present...however with any activity...you have to weigh the consequences versus the results...if you are in an area with no other houses or people...is there really going to be a DNR officer around....probably not....however ya better have your check book ready...just in case...there are a few areas that are privately owned but open to public use...a lot of that happens up in places that have heavy mining or timbering....ya just have to learn how to get out of the way of the huge timber trucks....

I don't know about there, but here the power lines are where everyone goes. Very illegal however, but most guys don't care. I would go out there with them but the ruts to get back there are made buy guys with 38"+ so I can't even get into the trails. Tread carefully.
