Default 2001 Blazer

2001 Blazer LS 4 door
Starting to have rust problems lower doors. I need someone to check their 2001 blazer and tell me if they only have 2 drain holes on the front and rear doors. I have checked a 1998 and the front 5 drain holea and the rear has 3. I have to find out if this a factory defect and GM dealerships are not being any help. They say the rust is caused by rock chips, I have had 2 other bodymen check it out and they say it is due to the lack of drain holes on the doors, perforated rust. I cant seem to find any GM website to contact on this matter__________________

Mine is a 2 door, and it has 2 drain holes. One at the front of the door the other at the back of the door, about an inch long and 1/4" high apiece.

Thanks they must have had a design change from the older blazers then as they had 5 drains, I kind of thought they just missed putting in all the drains on mine, have you got any rust showing up on yours and under ther rubber seal yet?

My 2000 Bravada only had 2 drains per door as Troy described. I would flush these out every once in awhile with my air hose and then run water down through the door.

Doors are made to pass water. They are not sealed, except between the outside of the vehicle and the passenger compartment with the weather deflector. If any thing gets down and plugs the drain holes, you could end up with issues.

How many miles are on your 2001? I believe there is a rust-thru warranty for something like 10yr/100,000mi.. But someone correct me if I'm wrong. If there isn't, I wouldn't get it repaired, I'd just go to a junkyard and pull a whole door to replace it with. Would be cheaper in the long run.

I'm not having any problem with mine. No rust under the weatherstrip, no clogs in my drains. I'm not sure as far as the warranty goes. I would do just as swartlkk said and just start with a new door, easier and cheaper in the long run as he said.

140,000 KM, warranty only 6 years or 60 KM , not much of a warranty is it., Drains were not plugged, maybe a low spot in centre of door, I had a rust protection package done when I bought it 2 years ago, usually they put a wax in doors , couldnt find anything, rust is not far enough where it cant be repaired , I got it out to my brother in laws body shop now,I have done many restorations there before.Dealership tried to tell me it was caused by rock chips, right, but wouldnt give me an explanation when I showed him that the rocks must have jumped up under the rubber strip and chipped it there also, so we just parted ways as I have bought 2 vehicals from CMP in past 2 years but wont get anymore business from me. Ticks me that a 6 year old vehical starts to rust especially when it has be kept clean

That sucks bro. Where are you from? Canada, I suppose (due to the measurement in km's ) right? Road salt could be your culprit.

yes Calgary Alberta, lot of road salt but you keep it washed, good thing I only paid 14,000 for it 2 years ago and not the 38,900 that it sold for new, vehicles pretty expensive here I will fix up and maybe trade it back into the same dealer lol

Whenever I build anything I put in a lot more drains etc for the moisture to escape, auto makers seem to put it less, I suppose so they can sell more vehicles faster
