The black plastic around my rear windows and hatch is degrading, it's hard to describe so I included pictures. I was thinking about just sanding the whole thing taping it off and painting it, has anyone else had this issue?

I know the 2-doors have a huge problem with this. If it were mine, I would not hesitate to mask it off and paint. Just make sure you do the entire surround so that you dont have a weird cutoff between paint and fade

my 99 2dr also has this problem. I have tried sanding them down and painting them but it just doesnt last due to the plastic rotting. When i get a chance i want to go talkt to the guys in the body shop at work and see if they can come up with a way to fix it. Maybe sand it down a bit and bondo it and paint it? I dont have any other ideas.

Well, I finish finals on Thursday, then 30 days off, looks like I have a project now.

Mine were the same way, I sanded them smooth, then filled the pits with plastic filler, sanded smooth again, taped it off, and sprayed them.
They came out great, So will yours, just take your time, and do it right.
