Bucket seat modification
2004 Blazer s10
Im looking to revitalize my interior with new seats while keeping all the mechanicals. So technically I guess I just want to replace the upholstery of the front seats, the inside cushions and fabric. Almost 20yrs old and the foam has lost like 20-40% of its volume which is noticeable when you’re conscious about how your body shifts while you drive.
Don’t get me wrong they look okay but as a guy who has worked with a lot of newer cars I definitely see what can be better.
I assume that an upholstery place would be the ideal place to go. Does anyone have any other ideas?…….for example if I could just pop off the original fabric/foam and snap on (no pun intended) a new update outfit for the sits I’d actually prefer that.
side note: I was looking up other people who have done it, many just install racing seats which are cool and light weight but they don’t give option to keep my power controls. Also again I’d prefer to just replace the upholstery off and on if possible

You can usually replace the foam cushions in the front by using the ones from the passenger seats. They usually don't see as much pounding as the drivers seats and can be interchanged. For the outer fabric I couldn't tell ya.
that’s more of an out of sight out of mind fix and deep down I’d know lol but that’s actually really helpful because it sounds like I could also buy good quality material cut to fit and re-stuff it
I replaced the foam and upholstery on the drivers side this summer, and it made a world of difference. The truck has 265,000 km and the previous owner was hard on the seat.
The auto wrecker had a passenger seat with similar upholstery at cost of $50. I removed the upholstery and cushion, and an upholstery shop charged $40 to reverse the upholstery from passenger to driver's side. An opening needs to be made for the power controls and seatbelt, and the existing seatbelt hole needs to be sewn shut. The power control hole can also be closed, but its not visible and probably unnecessary.
The most difficult part for me was installing the foam properly into the upholstery. There is velcro attached to the upholstery that holds it in a channel in the foam. I was unable to get the rear of the cushion to fit properly into the upholstery. Still, it turned out OK, the poor fit is not really noticeable and the seat is far better than before.
I would not be surprised if an upholstery shop could sew a new cover based upon a pattern from the old seat, but it might be costly. And the velcro would need to be attached correctly to the new cover, and also the heating elements if you have them.
I have to wonder if new foam or upholstery could be ordered from the dealer. I have not yet seen an aftermarket replacement cushion or cover.

thanks for an actual reply.
ive worked for GM and having a seat made or repaired is far more easy and less costly than ordering OEM. I didn’t even look it up because I just know it’s discontinued. I might just try to insert new foam if possible.and at some point eventually get new fabric fitted for the seats.
im serious, thanks for your reply
