ok here is how i have mounted my spare tire to my roof rack....

first i ran to the local shop and got some primer and rust black paint. i also grabbed two (2) "eye bolts" (i dont know what these are called)

FIRST:

I heated the eye part of the bolt and bent it outwards so it is like a hook now. then i painted them black.

SECOND:

I put the hook part under one of the bars of the roof rack and put the treads up through one of the lug nut hole then tightened them up....took about 10 min and is rock solid

I like how you mounted the tire but it won't work on mine. I've got flat bars about three inches wide. I know I can get one from the manufacturer but I think I'll see if I can't adapt your idea to my rack.

you could just put a strip of metal under the bars and drill two holes in it then put the bolts up through the lug holes.

or just drill a hole in the flat bars and put bolts up the the rim. but i would avoid this.

Nice job! I like that roof rack. I'm not a fan of round lights but it looks good nevertheless.

Was it a pain getting the spare tire carrier off? Any pics of the process by chance?

nope really easy. used a 1/2 inch impact air tool and zipped the bolts right out.

Thanks, sounds good! I got a dent right on the bottom bolt that needs some repair, and it could use some touch up paint too. Always easier to work when its not on the truck.

!!! AWESOME idea on that spare carrier. beats the hell out of the rack-brand pre-fabbed set up.
when i get some skins for my 16x8's, i'm going to use your idea!
