Default Glove Box Door Latch

2001 Chevy Blazer, 200,000 miles.

Another maintenance job on the 16-year old Chevy Blazer. This time it was the glove box, on which
the latch was broken. Arrow points to broken latch:

Without the latch, the door swings all the way downward. The inside of the glove box is a pocket attached to the door, so it just dumps all your stuff right out onto the floor.

While I searched for an alternative solution, I attached a bungee cord to hold the door mostly shut.
And I unplugged the glove box light bulb, because a shut glove box door is what turns that bulb off,
and with the door open or ajar, the light continues to burn for a while even with the engine off and helps
drain the battery.

Door held shut with bungee cord:

The bungee cord kept the contents from being dumped out onto the floor.

And of course, you can't just buy another latch, you have to buy the entire glove box door
as a unit. And GM wants $315 for that! Yeah, really. No way I'm paying $315 to fix a
broken latch.

Then I found a replacement glove box door on ebay for $36, much more to my liking.

It only took about a half-hour to remove and replace the door and reattach the light, and it's now as good as
new again. Just three hex head screws holding it to the hinge. New glove box door installed: Ahhhh!

Done!
