Default Help painting nerf bars

I picked up a set of Westin nerf bars that need to be painted. I know that powder coat is the best option but I think I want to do it myself. Just wondering how to remove the step pad and what type of paint would be best. They have a truck and tractor paint at Tractor Supply Company that is apparently a tougher paint and I have also been told to use spray on bed liner. I can get the bed liner for $7.50 at Walmart but not sure if I will like the tectured look. Anyone else ever do this?

The step pad should just pry up, carefully with a flat screwdriver, just move it a round until you get next to one of the spurs. That ole tractor enamel should be fine for what you are wanting to do. Depending on your enviroment not much will last even as the original powder coat did not.
