Home made bumper

I wanted a bumper that could protect the nose, be light weight, and not stick out a mile, yet be able to put a hidden winch behind. This is it.
I started with 3" square tube, and then built a military style brush guard on top.

wow thats nice i dont think its legal in ny tho

i like when it didnt have the top piece to it but it still looks good

TheRandom1 07-28-2011 08:52 PM

I dunno it looks odd. I think it's because it's all square and angular and whatnot on a curvy Blazer. Craftsmanship looks good, and it certainly appears functional, but something just doesn't look "right" about it to me.

I'll say good job on it though, since it seems you build exactly what you wanted.

Looks nice. Everyones a critic I know. I would recommend that the two center supports line up with the two grill supports on each side of the bowtie (Geometry for looks). Looks great, a good coat of paint and I'm sure it'll blend to the styling of the blazer.

Finally done. Now I just need to remove it, clean it, and get it over to the powdercoater.

It is off to the powder coater (ie, my brotherinlaw) It will be gloss black. I may opt to paint it grey to match the grey trim on the truck now.

That is exactly where I got the idea from. I have had a couple m1009 military blazers, and have always liked the simplicity of the grill guards, and the light weight. More function than form. The stock bumper weighed 21 lbs. this bumper weighs 82 lbs. So I am only adding 61 lbs to the nose. after measuring things, any drop was near undetectable

Back from the powdercoater.

So question, what was the total cost of that and how many hours did you put into it?

Then also, want to fab one up for me? :D

I have 70.00 into it, a favor for the powdercoat, and 15 hours.

Looks nice, especially finished. Put some foglights on there and I think the front end would look real nice =)
