How Many Sq. Ft. of Paintable Body
Can anyone give me an accurate number.
I guess I could go out and do the measurements but maybe somebody
has the answer handy. Does anybody know how many square feet
of paintable surface a 1997 4 door LT Blazer has on it. I plan to buy
some high quality Base Coat and Clear and the stuff is expensive.
I want to make sure I have a good idea on how much I am going to need.
I would like to put 2-3 coats of each and I don't want to wind up buying
more than what I need or get stuck with needing more.
Thanks.

If this helps anybody.
I went outside and measured it.
My estimate on the paintable body
which includes the bumpers comes to
about 140 Square feet. I erred to the
high side so I don't think it would be greater
than the 140 Square foot number.
A high quality Paint job is big bucks.
Even if you do all the prep work yourself.
Thanks-Mark

we need more then "pantible surfaces" to give you a good idea. if you are just going to spray it with out jamming it, probley can use about a gallon and a half to be safe 2 gallons but again...this all depends on what you are doing if you plan on doing a good clean job you will want to spray all the door jams the inside of all the doors, hoods and hatch door ..bla bla bla
my best advise if you plan on doing this yourself is buy about 2 gallons of primer (i like PPG k38) (if your going to prime all your jams, again.. its alot of work your but will get you your best results ) if you are doing just the surface not jaming anything roughtly a gallon and a half would do its better to have alittle left over then a little to less ..
shoot it with primer first that way you can buy a gallonand see how far you get so if you run out its not like you ruined your prime job ..primer of course if higher build and you spray it heavier then you would with base/clear so whatever you use in primer youll use slightly less in base/clear

Thanks for the reply.
I plan on sanding the entire car down with 300-400 grit.
Including the door jams. Do I need to PRIME the entire body after I sand it?
Or can I just put the Base Coat over what I sand with nothing extra.
I plan on using 1 gallon of PPG DBU 9700(Black) Base coat.
Plus (1 gallon of DRR 1170 Reducer). This should give me 2 gallons.
I am thinking about PPG DC3000 Clear or PPG DCU2002 Clear
along with the proper reducers and hardeners.
This should give me around 1.5 Gallons.
All this stuff costs around $500-600.
I am thinking to have somebody working out
of their garage do the Spray on. I would do the finish work
of sanding/buffing.
Thanks - Mark K
