Inside Mounted Tire Carrier
#1
Ok, since i'm getting rid of my swing away carrier, which is up for sale, i need to mount my tire inside. Can anyone show me a picture of how their interior mounted tire actually mounts? or explain how it works? If I can get one at a junkyard, anything like that? And if a full size tire will fit back there or not? Thanks a lot!

i have a couple of them available in good condition if you are still looking for one. I do believe a full size tire will fit on them as well. if you are talking about a full size k5. I see your signature says you got a 92. I don't know if mine will fit cause mine are from 80s models but if you know let me know please.

i might be able to tell from a picture or two. And depending on how much you want for them, i may take one and chance it fitting. I'd like to see what it looks like first though. Thanks

My full sized Yukon, which is the same as the Tahoe had a full size spare inside.
We did have an 83 S-10 and it too had a full size spare but the mounting points for the spare tire bracket were in different locations. That was over 10 years ago so I don't remember exactly how it mounted though. I'd check it out before getting the mounting hardware from a K5.
Do you have the full size version or the smaller one?
I'm guessing its the latter since I don't believe the full sizers came with the 4.3L.

I will try and get some pics to you this weekend. I have one currently installed in a full size K5 blazer that I'll take a pic of so you can see how it mounts.
And if it looks like you would be able to make it fit or modify it or something I'll get it to ya for like $10 and whatever shipping is. I mean i've got three of them. haha.

sounds good to me! And yeah, oisinirish, i had noticed that on a yukon i saw the other day that it had a full size in the back and was wondering if that mount could be modified for mine? My step-dad keeps telling me he had a blazer a year or two older than mine and it had the full size in the back. and I looked the other day, and my blazer has what looks to be a cut out in the tailgate to accommodate the inside mount and a few holes (with plastic stoppers in'm) that might be what the mount would go into.and in the jack manual I have, it shows the two different ways to get the tire off (via the carrier and via the inside rack). which leads me to believe my blazer is ready-made for the inside mount. although, my step dad tells me that his interior trim piece would actually cover the tire, not just a leather tire cover. So I don't know if I need to find that piece or not. Thanks for all your help guys!

No one has an interior mounted carrier that they can take pictures of or explain? No one at all?

I went and snapped a view shots. Keep in my this is a 2nd gen blazer, not one like yours!
The set up is pretty basic though..

This is what the tire looks like mounted, pretty snazzy eh? :P

This is a close up of how its attached. Basically you've got a long screw that has a hook at one end which hooks to the mount. It;s all basically a clamp system.

The screw hooks onto the carrier itself and is then stuck through the rim. The metal piece shown in this pic acts as a clamp, there the screw piece isnt in this pic.

This is a pretty good idea of how it looks when it's all hooked up!
I hope this helps ya!

ok great post thanks! So the tire when mounted in there is pulled against that bar? (third pic from top) hmm, ok. I'm pretty sure my blazer is already set up to have an interior tire, i just don't have the parts. Like, in my manual to get the spare off (i have no idea why it came with a manual that tells you how to take nuts off but anyways..) it shows how to get it off from the inside. and it shows the eye hook and basically the same setup as your but i don't think i have that bar or that that bar was used in first gens. Hard to tell from the manual...but i get a better picture now thanks!
