Painted the hitch today. It's done and with pics
As some of you know I'm kinda a weekend warrior when it comes to projects for my baby. So I painted my hitch this weekend. It looks great compared to before. I'll try to post better picture tomorrow.
The night I bought my blazer this is how the back looked:
A few weeks later I painted the tire carrier:
And this weekend the hitch:
All taped up:
The pile of rust and paint chips that came from the hitch:
All masking taken off:
The time invested is quite a bit for just a hitch that I'll probably never use, again like the last post I'll break down the cost.
Truck bed liner 2 cans: $7.47 each
60 grit sand paper: $3.39
A wire brush: $2.98
A hammer: free since I already had it
A chisel: free
7 hours of sanding
1 hour of painting
So for about $20 bucks you can paint your hitch. Much cheaper than painting the carrier $100.

I just got up so I got some new pictures, much better.
the hitch over view
From the side
And because under the bumper was a little rusty sanded and coated that too without painting the whole bumper

Good job!

I didn't think the bed liner would look that good but it does

Wow, you northerners have some major rust issues. here in colorado rust isnt an issue at all, unless the vehicle is like over 20 years old. just very light surface rust on the underside. not flaking apart like back east there. crazy.

The road salt for snow/ice is the major problem on the Esat Coast. If i remember right, in Colorado they only use sand, if anything!

Nice job

Yeah, they use a sand mixture called ice slicer. they also use mag chloride if they see the storm coming. wreaks havoc on chrome, but not steel so much. it doesnt snow a ton here, but when it does, it comes deep usually. lots of wind with it too at times.
