Rattle Can Paint Job
The clear coat was chipping and sections of paint were wearing off of my wife's 89 4.3L S10 Blazer causing rust... so I finally got the OK to paint her up;

It'll probably fade in a matter of months... and I'll have those fire road "Manzanita pinstripes" before long too!

Trust me, this was no small effort.
It took nearly a week and it kept raining on me so I had one hell of a time.
The process went something like this-
-Take removable stuff off- grille, flanges, mirrors, roof rack rails, spoiler, etc.
-80 grit electric sanding until at least the clear coat was off.
-200 grit hand sanding of the exposed metal that had started to rust while I finished the clear coat sanding.
-Thorough wash with soap and water, then thorough dry.
-Tape off windows, etc. with masking tape & plastic & wipe with a fresh cloth (to get the small fibers of towel off from drying).
-Spray 1st coat with Rustoleum Gray Primer (it was striped) & let dry.
-200 grit hand sanding & wipe down with damp cloth, then dry cloth.
-Spray 2nd coat with Primer (no more stripes) & let dry.
-200 grit sanding & wipe down with damp cloth, then dry cloth.
-Spray 1st coat with Rustoleum OD (striped) & let dry.
-200 grit sanding & wipe down with damp cloth, then dry cloth.
-Spray 2nd coat with OD (no more stripes) & let dry.
-400 grit sanding & wipe down with damp cloth, then dry cloth.
-Spray 3rd coat OD & let dry.
-Run 400 grit paper over it lightly because the paint turns out rough and will rip the crap out of any type of towel when you wash it.
-Wash it, paint the accessories & reinstall.
-New tires (nice finishing touch).
I ran it through a car wash the other day and it came out fine!
Also this was all done in my driveway with a total of about 4 cans per coat, for a total of about 30 cans all tolled with accessories, vehicle and a couple extra cans for touch ups. Probably cost about $130 and a week of intense labor, including numb index fingers and thumbs.
I painted an s10 truck like this a year ago and it faded pretty bad, so when you touch up the scratches from 4 wheelin, you can tell the difference from the new paint and the old paint, so I may eventually touch it up with some coyote brown, black and different shades of green to make it camo over the years.
The wife is proud, so...
